Flames Coffee Shop at 7170 Santa Teresa Blvd is a straightforward, full-service diner in South San Jose that caters mostly to locals looking for hearty American breakfast and classic comfort meals throughout the day. Despite the “Coffee Shop” in its name, Flames functions much like a neighborhood diner with a broad menu ranging from substantial omelets and combos to casual dinners like spaghetti with meatballs or cheeseburgers with fries.

The atmosphere inside is calm and inviting, with a coastal-inspired decor that nods to a relaxed California vibe, though modest in style. Seating is ample and varied, allowing visitors to settle in comfortably whether they’re grabbing a quick solo breakfast or enjoying a quiet dinner with family. The space tends toward casual comfort rather than trendy or upscale, making it a dependable spot for easy-going dining without fuss.

Flames particularly shines for weekend brunch or early morning visits when locals come to enjoy familiar, consistently prepared plates like the Pancake Combo, The Maserati Omelet, or classic eggs any style accompanied by a variety of breakfast meats. The service is noted for being attentive and friendly, with food arriving promptly – ideal for those who want a no-frills, satisfying meal without waiting. The kitchen delivers well-portioned dishes that seem to cater to both those seeking traditional diner fare and those with varied tastes, including options like Santa Fe Salad or German Chocolate Cake for a sweet finish.

Families and regulars appreciate the clean, comfortable environment where hygiene standards are noticeable in action, creating a relaxed space where everyone feels welcome. Dinner visits can feel less crowded, offering some privacy and quiet, which adds to the unhurried dining experience. While some side choices like French fries may not stand out to everyone, the overall menu variety allows guests to find something to their liking, whether it’s a savory scramble or a larger entrée like Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs.

Flames Coffee Shop is best suited for those who value straightforward, familiar dishes in a friendly, low-key setting, especially for breakfast and brunch, but also throughout the day. Early mornings and weekends tend to have a steady flow of patrons, while weekday evenings can provide a quieter, more tucked-away dinner experience. If you’re in the Santa Teresa area looking for reliable diner classics without the pretension, Flames offers a tried-and-true local spot that consistently delivers on portion and flavor.

Perfect place for weekend brunch. Ever since Hobbes closed down in north San Jose, I was searching for my next brunch spot. And after trying dozens of restaurants, I found the perfect substitute. I absolutely love this restaurant. Amazing vibe, great food and excellent service. It had good costal decor, kinda! And hygiene was their top priority. I could see! I wasn’t a big fan of their fries, but portobello mushrooms sandwich was amazing. Even skillet chicken was good. Maybe a little bit too cheesy! Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Great tasting food with safe and courteous staff. Our family enjoyed a pleasant dinner and desert at flames. It was not crowded at the time and we were safely tucked away from other patrons.

Flames is truly a hidden gem. I’ve been going for the last 20 years. Every visit reaffirms why it’s one of my go-to spots. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. Whether you’re craving something hearty or something light, the menu offers a wide range of consistently delicious options for all meals! What sets Flames apart is the remarkable consistency. No matter the time of day or day of the week, you can count on the same high quality. Every dish is prepared with care, and the flavors are always spot-on. The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes and quality of ingredients. It’s rare to find a place that offers this kind of value without compromising on taste or presentation. And the customer service is just as impressive. The staff is warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, always ready to accommodate special requests and ensure a smooth, pleasant experience from start to finish.
